MANNY Pacquiao realizes he’s got nothing to gain by fighting Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley and is looking instead to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., provided the Pretty Boy beats Juan Manuel Marquez as most people expect.
Should Marquez score what would amount to a stunning upset by beating the former no. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, then Pacquiao will face Marquez in a trilogy that many fights fans and journalists believe should happen.
But in case Marquez wins and faces Pacquiao, the reigning world’s pound-for-pound king’s conditioning expert Alex Ariza told Standard Today: “Manny will knock him out in one round.”
Pacquiao himself said recently that Marquez was lucky in their first two fights because he suffered cramps in both legs. But after he hired Ariza, he’s had no problems at all and commended his conditioning guru for his great work.
The Pacman dropped Marquez three times in the opening round of their first fight, but Marquez counter-punched his way to salvage a draw. In the second fight, Pacquiao decked Marquez once to earn a close split decision and grab the World Boxing Council super featherweight title.
Pacquiao is leaving for Los Angeles later this week, but it’s uncertain whether he will participate in the Philippine Independence Day parade in New York scheduled for June 7. read more
